Rubina is a royally bred 1991 imported German Hanoverian mare and is entered into the AHS Main Studbook. She is by the legendary stallion, Rubinstein I and out of a States Premium Wenzel I mare. Rubinstein was a Westfalen stallion, but has been extremely influential in a number of breeds. He was shown to Grand Prix dressage by Nicole Uphoff in Germany. He sired 60+ approved sons, many of whom won their stallion performance tests and riding horse championships, in addition to hundreds of approved mares. Rubinstein offspring are known for their outstanding work ethic, rideability, and character to succeed in the highest levels of dressage. Rubina’s dam is the States Premium mare Wennings, by Wenzel I, who won his stallion performance test in 1979 and was a producer of top dressage mounts. He produced 68 state’s premium mares and numerous great sons. He also produced 80 auction horses, including 9 which sold for over DM100,00. Wenzel is seen in the pedigrees of many top mare’s damlines. St. Pr. Wennings was out of anther States Premium mare, Shocolata, by the great Shogun. Rubina’s character, rideability, and work ethic are superb and true to her sire and backed up by an incredible mare line. She is a lovely mover and a wonderful mare to have on the farm.
Rubina was bred by Axel Windeler and imported from Germany by Marilyn Rockefeller as a young horse after completing her mare performance test and producing a few nice foals in Germany. She produced a foal in Germany that sold for $65,000 in the auction as a 4 year old. After producing a number of outstanding foals for Marilyn Rockefeller, she was sold to River House Hanoverians, where she produced two outstanding colts by their stallion, Maronjo. From there, Rubina was sold to Dietra Barden who she produced 2 fillies and 1 colt by Fred Astair. We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to purchase this outstanding mare from Dietra in the spring of 2010.
Unfortunately, after a severe bout of colic, Rubina was humanely euthanized on March 25, 2012. She will live forever in our hearts.
