Call Me Ichabod is a very fancy dark bay Holsteiner gelding. He is by the 17.1 hh Holsteiner stallion, Cunningham (Cassini I/Contender/Memphisto), who has had great success in the hunter ring and has proven himself to be an outstanding hunter sire. Cunningham's offspring are known for their fantastic temperaments, modern types, personality, balance, and superb conformation. Ichabod is out of the imported 16.3+ hh Dutch Warmblood mare, Piacenza (Hamlet/Pele). She is by the International Grand Prix Jumper, Hamlet. Hamlet is well-known for siring the great Hickstead, who won countless Grand Prix events worldwide and represented Canada in 10 Nations Cup classes. Hickstead's many international wins include the 2008 Olympic individual gold and team silver medalist, the 2007 $1 million CN International at Spruce Meadows and team silver and individual bronze at the 2007 Pan American Games. Based on his performance record, Hickstead was ranked the number one show jumping horse in the world by the World Breeding Federation of Sport Horses (WBFSH) in 2008. He was also named 'Stallion of the Year' for 2008 by the KWPN. Piacenza’s dam, Brigette, competed through the 1.35 m jumpers and is by Pele, an excellent producer of both dressage and jumping horses in the Netherlands. Piacenza herself started in the jumper ring in Holland successfully completing up to the 1.30 m jumpers before being imported to the US. She competed successfully at the A level for several years in both hunters and jumpers with her young riders, including HITS Ocala.
This gelding is gorgeous. Very correct, tall, and well-developed for his age. He has a great walk, a big, powerful trot and an exceptionally balanced canter. As we expected, Ichabod is a natural through the jump chute (video link below) with plenty of scope and quick/careful behind.
Ichabod's character cannot be beat - he is inquisitive and smart. He is playful, brave in new situations, and is very easy to work with. He loves people and has an “in your pocket” personality. He has been handled daily and well socialized from birth. He will easily mature to 17 hh and is a fancy, young hunter or jumper prospect. You don’t see many Cunningham babies offered for sale. He will be very easy to start and definitely amateur-friendly. He is currently 16.1 + as a 2 year old - he is going to be huge!
